VGP – Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMasster affirmed that the US Administration continues attaching importance to and supporting the comprehensive partnership with Viet Nam while meeting with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on April 20.
Mr. Tillerson and Mr. McMaster also affirmed that President Donald Trump will visit Viet Nam and attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week scheduled in Da Nang City in November this year.

The US Secretary of State expressed his hope to visit Viet Nam in the time to com and pledged to closely coordinate with Viet Nam to ensure the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week could achieve practical outcomes.
Deputy PM, FM Minh highly valued the development of the Viet Nam-US relations over the past year and wished that the bilateral ties would continue strong advancement.
He said both sides should enhance the exchange of visits to accelerate cooperation in various fields.

Deputy PM, FM Minh affirmed Viet Nam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multi-lateralization and diversification of external relations and proactive international integration.
Viet Nam stands ready to work with the new US Administration to consolidate and deepen the two countries’ comprehensive partnership in a strong, stable, long-lasting, constructive and mutual benefit manner based on respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty and political system for peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia-Pacific and the world as well, Deputy PM, FM Minh emphasized.
Regarding the regional and international issues, Secretary Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser McMaster underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, maritime safety and freedom in the East Sea.
They also voiced support for peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea on the basis of diplomatic and legal processes and international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.

The same day, Deputy PM, FM Minh also met with US U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin who spoke highly of economic and trade ties with Viet Nam.
The Treasury Secretary said the US backs Viet Nam’s access to the World Bank’s IDA concessional lending as well as cooperative activities within the APEC framework./.
