UN highly values VN’s MDG realization

VGP- UNDP Administrator Helen Clark gave high estimations to Việt Nam’s success in realizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The High-Level Meeting on MDGs was held on September 21 in New York, by the UNDP, the UNICEP, the World Bank (WB) and the Japanese Government.

The UNDP Administrator, who chaired the meeting, also hailed Việt Nam’s effective participation in the One UN initiative in the country.

The UN and the international community have recognized Việt Nam as one of Asian-Pacific countries which have successfully realized MDGs.

To date, Việt Nam has realized 5 out of 8 MDGs ahead schedule, and it is speeding up the realization of the remaining goals by 2015.

The 8 goals include eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing a global partnership for development.
