(VOV) - Two Vietnamese sailors died and four others were injured when the Korean ship Jung Woo 3 caught fire at Montevideo port in Uruguay on March 3.
Montevideo port authorities and, Escena S.A agency which manages the fishing ship, said the fire occurred when there were around 40 sailors on board, mostly from Asia, including 20 from Vietnam.
The two dead sailors were identified as Nguyen Van Hiu (30 years old) and Tran Van Duan (25) and the four injured as Nguyen Hai Duong (21), Nguyen Van Tuan (30), Nguyen Tien Son (26) and Le Duc Thang (20) – all from Ha Tinh province, central Vietnam.
After learning about the fire, the Vietnamese embassy in Argentina and Uruguay immediately contacted local authorities and asked them to coordinate in rescue efforts.
The incident is currently under investigation.
The Jung Woo 2, like Jung Woo 3 belonging to the same owner, was also on fire in January, leaving three Vietnamese dead.
