Tuna fish export to the Netherlands surges

VGP – Vietnamese tuna fish is being favored in the Netherlands, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).

Since 2005, the volume of tuna from developing countries imported to the Netherlands has dropped 16% a year.

Now, 18% of the European country’s tuna import volume is from Mexico, 13% from Vietnam, 7.2% from Costa Rica, 3.8% from Indonesia, 2.7% from Morocco, and 2.5% from Panama.

In recent years, Vietnamese tuna exported to the Netherlands has surged 64% a year, while export of tuna from Indonesia fallen 44%, from Panama dropped 9.3%.

Last year, the Netherlands imported over 900,000 tons of tuna worth € 4.5 million, becoming the EU’s 8 th biggest tuna importer.
