Nhan Dan - Vietnam's top female sprinter Truong Thanh Hang won a gold medal on May 8 in the first stage of the ongoing 2012 Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok, Thailand.
Hang finished first in the women’s 800m event, clocking a time of 2 minutes, 2.15 seconds, followed by Anna Sidorova from Uzbekistan and Sinimole Paulose from India, with times of 2 minutes, 2.22 seconds and 2 minutes, 3.19 seconds, respectively.
Earlier, Hang’s teammate Vu Thi Huong bagged a bronze medal in the women’s 100m event with a time of 11.79 seconds, only 0.4 seconds slower than gold medalist Guzel Khubbieva from Uzbekistan.
Vietnamese athletes, including Nguyen Thi Thuy, Duong Van Thai and Nguyen Van Hung, will continue competing at the tournament in the women’s 400m and the men’s 800m and triple jump.
The second stage of the competition will be held in Kanchanaburi, Thailand on May 11 while the final stage will take place in Chonburi on May 14.
