HCM City faces a shortage of parking space for container trucks, the City Department of Transport has said.
Transport companies focus on buying these vehicles but not on investing in space to park them, it adds.
There are 8,500 container trucks registered in the city.
Since most of HCM City's ports are within the city, finding parking space for these vehicles is a headache.
If they have to park far away from the city centre, it will result in wastage of fuel and time.
But then finding parking space in the city is difficult because there is little of it and is expensive and it mars the city's beauty and causes urban issues as parking lots in some residential areas prove.
In Bac Rach Chiec residential area in District 9, which has one such lot, roads have been badly damaged because these vehicles constantly go back and forth on them.
Another lot in the district's Long Thanh My Ward has had the same effect on streets here.
Besides, the giant trucks also cause noise pollution and dust, and threaten to cause accidents and traffic jams.
Residents in Bac Rach Chiec have complained to local authorities to remove the parking lot.
Transport companies are hoping city authorities will come up with a quick and suitable solution. — VNS
