The collision caused two of the train’s cars to be completely severed from the train. One was derailed while the other was hurled more than a dozen meters from the rail line.
It is reported that the truck driver, Mai Van Trong, 31, died immediately after the accident and a train staff was injured. At least 10 passengers’ bikes kept on the train were completely damaged.
At 2.30pm today, local authorities are speeding up repair work and heavy bulldozers have been called in to tow the truck from the scene.
The violent collision also caused the truck’s gas tank to fall out, lying next to the train’s third car. At least 5 big gas bottles in the train’s cafeteria compartment were leaked.
Binh Thuan police have called in fire trucks, together with 10 firemen to the scene to prevent explosion.
