Huynh Phuong Dai Trang defended her title after defeating Tran Lan Anh by 2-0 in the final of the National Tennis Championship at the HCM City-based Phu Tho Club yesterday.

To reach the final, the Da Nang-born girl beat Si Boi Ngoc by 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) and crushed Ngoc's teammate Tran Tam Hao by 2-0 (6-4, 6-3).
In the mixed doubles event, Do Minh Quan and Huynh Mai Huynh won the title after defeating Bui Thai Luan and Nguyen Ai Ngoc Van by 2-0 in the final match.
In other news, eight-time champion Quan is well on his way to defending his title in the men's singles event by defeating veteran Le Quoc Khanh by 2-1 (6-7, 6-3, 6-0) in the semi-final.
In the quarterfinal match, Quan beat 16 year old talent Nguyen Hoang Thien, the first Vietnamese player to take part in the Australian Open Tennis Tournament for U-18 players.
In other semi-finals, Ngo Quang Huy easily beat Ho Huynh Dan Mach by 2-0 (7-5, 6-0).
The five-day tournament attracted more than 40 players competing in men and women's singles and doubles, and mixed doubles events.
The tourney, which will conclude on Sunday, offers the organisers an opportunity to choose the most outstanding tennis players to compete at the 26th Southeast Asian Games in November in Indonesia. – VNS
