Traffic violators to face stiff punishment

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who also presides as chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, has asked all relevant ministries, agencies and local authorities to implement suitable and effective measures to ensure better traffic safety.

The Ministry of Transport has been asked to promulgate regulations to erase traffic ‘hot spots’, and limit or prohibit motorcycles in major cities.

Construction work on streets, particularly on major routes, ring roads, and central-bound routes must be hastened.

Deputy PM Phuc ordered the management board in every office and company to ban employees, regardless of position, from drinking wine and beer during their break time.

In addition, the National Committee for Traffic Safety and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union have been asked to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Education and Training to develop appropriate activities in schools to educate students on traffic laws as well as proper traffic culture.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been asked to prepare and publicise material for good ‘Traffic Culture’ for reference.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been urged to crack down on the manufacturing and selling of poor-quality helmets and hats that resemble helmets.

The Ministry of Public Security has been asked to collaborate with the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam and the Supreme People’s Court to act swiftly and effectively to punish anyone causing serious traffic accidents or resisting arrest.

Lastly, the Ministry of Health has been requested to introduce strict regulations for conducting alcohol tests on drivers in co-operation with the Ministry of Transport.
