Traffic safety month launched in Hanoi

Traffic safety month, “Prevention of drink-driving”, was officially launched in Hanoi on August 27th in the presence of the Deputy Prime-Minister, Politburo member and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phuc stressed that traffic accidents recently became one of the most urgent issues in Vietnam with an alarming rate of deaths and injuries due to traffic accidents.

Mr. Phuc also asked the City promote propaganda and education, especially to young people, to raise their awareness of observing traffic law, and then to build a cultural lifestyle in daily life as well as actually in traffic. Enforcement agencies such as public security and traffic inspectorate should strictly punish transgressors. Construction companies and public utilities should accelerate construction projects to make Hanoi become a more beautiful and safer city.

Also on August 27th, the HCMC People’s Committee also launched the Traffic Safety Month 2011, “Traffic Culture for a Safe Life”, in response to the “Action Decade 2011-2020 for Traffic Safety” by the UN in Vietnam to reduce the death rate due to traffic accidents through practical actions.
