Nguyen Tien Minh, Vietnam’s top badminton player, made a good start at the US Open Grand Prix Gold by winning the first match, with a 2-0 score, over Jan Frohlich from the Philippines on July 12th.
In the second round of the tournament, held from July 11th to 16th, Tien Minh will play Agusriadi Wijaya, a Malaysian player.
However, another Vietnamese player, Nguyen Hoang Nam, was unfortunately beaten by Dieter Domke, a German player, at the first round.
At the ongoing tournament, four other Vietnamese players are completing in the men’s doubles competition.
The US Open Grand Prix Gold, with a total prize of US$120,000, is a good chance for Tien Minh to improve his ranking in the world’s list.
According to the latest world rankings released by the World Badminton Federation, Nguyen Tien Minh is ranked ninth.
