Minh is the only seeded player still remaining in the tournament.
Although he lost the first set quickly, 14-21, sixth seeded Tien Minh concentrated hard in the second and third sets and gradually took control of the game.
Minh, who is now eleventh in the world rankings, dominated the play and won two straight sets 21-11 and 21-13, to surge forward into the semi-finals.
In his next match this afternoon, Minh will take on world number 32 Boonsak Ponsana from Thailand, who beat Dionysiyus Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia 2-1 in a quarter-finals game yesterday.
