The national finale of the fourth Football Dreams project in Vietnam was held at HCM City-based Thanh Long Sports Center from August 5 to 7.
It is different from the three previous competitions; the organizing board did not announce the winners after the finale. They only presented gifts and the Aspire Institute’s certificates to 50 finalists.
Coaches from the Barcelona FC left Vietnam on August 8 and they still kept secret of the three winners. The final list will be made public after the Football Dreams program finishes in 16 participating countries. The world final round will take place in Qatar in January 2012.
At the national finale, 50 most outstanding contestants chosen by Barcelona coaches from 50 provinces in Vietnam showed off their talents to six coaches from the Aspire Institute.
In the last day, they were divided into two teams to compete in a game. Three best players will be sent to Qatar to compete with over 50 teen players from 16 countries for 20 scholarships for a three-year training course at the Aspire Football Institute to become professional footballers.
Football Dreams is a non-profit program. Selected players are trained free of charge, without any condition. During the training course, they are paid monthly salary, totaling around $7,500 a year.
In the three previous competitions, Vietnam’s Nguyen Thai Sung (from Da Nang city) won a scholarship.
