The event was attended by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavath, along with representatives of ministries, sectors, and 24 provinces and cities across the country, as well as local residents.
This year’s six-day festival features many attractions including an exhibition of coconut products, a trade fair highlighting high quality Vietnamese goods, a street carnival celebrating the future of coconuts, and a seminar on increasing the value of coconut products, as well as a ceremony to honour coconut farmers, and the Miss Coconut Land beauty contest
Speaking at the opening, Vice President Doan spoke highly of Ben Tre province’s initiative in organising the festival. She encouraged Ben Tre and other provinces to promote co-operation and expand the area cultivated in coconut trees. The Vice President also urged scientists to improve the quality of coconut products and develop the industry in order to improve living standards for farmers.
The festival also provides a good chance for domestic and international coconut growing provinces to showcase their brands, attract investment and promote new trading opportunities.
