The first Centre for the deaf opens

A class for the deaf

The Centre for Research and Education of the Deaf (CED) was opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 2nd.

This first and only social centre in Vietnam, especially established by and for the deaf, aims to care for the health of children with hearing impairments by various measures including free hearing measurements, hearing-aid provision for poor deaf children, psychological consultation for the deaf and other language and behaviour therapies.

Also, CED aims to build and improve deaf people’s consciousness through various programs including sign language, lip-reading, teaching English and Vietnamese, or living, communication and working skills, skills to teach children how to think and develop their mind or other communication skills with the deaf.

Besides, CED provides consultation and orientation for careers for deaf children so that they can integrate into community.

Ms. Duong Phuong Hanh, CED Director, also deaf, confided that CED has a mission to help the deaf integrate into society, build active images of the community of the deaf as well as connect ordinary people and the deaf together so that it can create a friendly environment for the deaf to make them more confident in life.
