The 21 year old woman from Da Nang city finished the race in one hour and 35 minutes, three minutes faster than the B standard qualification for the Olympics, to secure an official ticket to the world’s biggest sporting event in London next July.
Phuc made her impressive debut at the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia last November by striking gold in the women’s 20km race walk with a time of 1 hour, 43 minutes, and 22 seconds.
Phuc is the ninth Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the London Olympics after gymnasts Phan Thi Ha Thanh (two events) and Pham Phuoc Hung, taekwondo artists Le Huynh Chau and Chu Hoang Dieu Linh, badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh, shooters Hoang Xuan Vinh and Le Thi Hoang Ngoc, and judo artist Van Ngoc Tu.
The 2012 Olympic Games will take place in London, England, from July 27 to August 12.
