PANO – The Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, in association with central relevant ministries, plans to upgrade the first stage of the Sao Vang Airport for civil aviation at the end of this year.
Accordingly, the province helps Vietnam Airlines train local workforces, provide accommodation for passengers in transit, and advertise the airline, to name a few.
Thanh Hoa also assigned the Provincial Department of Transport to finishing a road project to link Highway 47 with the Sao Vang Airport at a cost of VND 120 billion, draw up a master plan to extend the airport for civil aviation, erect landmarks for land clearance, and conduct compensation for local residents.
The Sao Vang Airport is an airbase located in Sao Vang Town, Tho Xuan District, 45km west of Thanh Hoa City. In May, 2012, as approved by PM Nguyen Tan Dung, the Sao Vang Airbase could be used as a civilian airport. Accordingly, the Government instructed the Ministry of Transport to work with the Defence Ministry, Thanh Hoa Province and other units to upgrade the Sao Vang into a military and civilian airport.
Once operational, the airport will make contributions to developing socio-economy in Thanh Hoa and regional localities as well as meet local people’s and tourists’ air travel.
