(VOV) - Vietnamese officials and specialists met with their Thai counterparts in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on September 15 to share the latest information on food prices on the international market and rice production and export in both countries.
Thailand and Vietnam are now the world largest exporters of rice, controlling about 50 percent of all the rice traded across the globe.
The two sides discussed prospects for incorporating issues related to rice into the joint cooperation program for building the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.
At the meeting, representatives of the Vietnam Food Association and the Thai Rice Exporters Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sharing information in relevant fields.
The annual meeting took place as the new Thai government is applying their policy to purchase rice from farmers at high prices.
