Disadvantaged people in the four cities of Hanoi, HCMC, Danang and Can Tho will get financial support from local governments for the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet), which falls on Feb 14.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has approved to fund VND109 billion (US$6 million) to support the poor and families of former servicemen in the city.
The allocation will range from VND100,000-600,000 per person or family.
Over 2,700 poor families and 43,000 people, including the elderly or those living on social welfares, in HCMC will receive a maximum VND500,000 each to enjoy Tet.
Ho Chi Minh City also approved the funding of a maximum VND1.2 million ($65) for each family of fallen serviceman.
The Central city of Danang has decided to set aside VND10 billion ($541,000) and 800 tons of rice for poor people and families.
Previous local modified vehicles’ drivers, who may loose their job after the suspension of their vehicles from traveling in the city, will also get VND250,000 each.
The Mekong Delta’s Can Tho City is planning to aid VND200,000 for every poor family in the city.
