The 14th Annual Terry Fox Run on November 28 beat its own record for charity fund raising with 9,000 participants and VND850,000,000 raised for cancer, the organizers said.
Last year’s event only had 7,500 runners and raised VND730 million or cancer.
The event was co-organized by the consulate general of Canada, the
Canadian International School, Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam and HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations.
Pham Xuan Dung, vice director of the HCMC Cancer Center, thanked the HCMC Terry Fox Run for raising awareness about cancer, the consulate general of Canada in HCMC said.
Dung said the signing of a memorandum between the Terry Fox International Foundation and the HCMC Cancer Center for the purchase of an ultrasound machine would allow for improved cancer diagnostics, and help crucial research into the prevention of the disease.
The annual charity Terry Fox Run is held around the world in commemoration of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox to raise money for cancer research.
