The HCM City Department of Information and Communications asked telecom service providers to check information registered by their prepaid subscribers to discover wrong personal information in time and cease providing services to violators.

It has asked the telecom firms to complete the checking process before March 30. They have been asked to send messages or phone users and ask the latter to register their information before April 15.

In case the users do not register their information, the telecom firms must stop providing services to them. Results of the checking process have to be reported to the department before April 30. After this date, the department will conduct inspections of telecom firms.

Noodles firm raises funds to help needy kids

The National Fund for Vietnamese Children and Gau Do instant-noodles brand of Asia Foods Corp hope to raise more than half a million dollars through a charity programme to support needy children suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Under the Gau Do Gan Ket Yeu Thuong (Red Bear – Connecting Love) programme, the company will donate VND10 from every pack of Gau Do instant noodles sold over the next 12 months.

The company hopes to raise over VND12 billion (US$577,000) for the cause of providing free treatment for poor children aged up to 14 who are suffering from life-threatening ailments.

The programme is supported by Ha Noi's Central Paediatrics Hospital and HCM City's Paediatrics Hospital No 2.

Local grape gets certificate of origin

The Ninh Thuan Department of Science and Technology organised on March 23 a ceremony to mark the certificate of origin granted to local grape by the Intellectual Property Department under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Ninh Thuan is famous nationwide for its grape cultivation, which is done on a total area of 1,200ha. The recognition of "Ninh Thuan grape" is expected to increase its economic value.

This is the 27th such certificate of geographical origin granted in the country alongside the Phu Quoc Fish Sauce, Buon Ma Thuot Coffee, and Nga Son Sedge.

Work on Metro line No.1 set to start

The HCM City People's Committee has asked the administrations of Thu Duc District and District 1 to speed up compensation, support and resettlement of displaced residents in order to ensure site clearance for the Metro Line No.1 is completed by July (for District 1) and August (for Thu Duc District area).

Work on the 19.7km long metro line is expected to start construction in August. 2.6km of which will be underground.

Construction on depot of the metro line route linking Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien kicked off in 2008.
