At the meeting at the Lao embassy, the veterans recalled glorious feats of arms and memories of the Tay Tien regiment over the past 64 years and expressed their gratitude to the Lao people for their fine sentiments and assistance when they fought in Laos during the resistance war against the French colonists (1946 - 1954).
On the occasion, the liaison committee also presented a book about the regiment to the ambassador along with a diary in verse by a Tay Tien soldier.
Ambassador Somphone Sichaleune expressed his delight at meeting the veterans and promised that during his term of office in Vietnam, he will do his best to strengthen and develop the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation between the two Parties, States and peoples.
The Lao ambassador expressed his hopes that the two countries will continue to educate the young generations about their revolutions and traditional friendship to preserve, foster and promote the special longstanding Vietnam-Laos relationship.
The Tay Tien veterans took this occasion to invite the Lao embassy to a ceremony celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Tay Tien regiment, which will be held on February 27, 2012 in the northern province of Hoa Binh.
