TV programme to help the hearing-impaired

The programme, co-produced by the Hanoi Association of Disabled People (HADP), Vietnam Television’s (VTV) Science and Education Department and the Vietnam Institute of Education Science (VNIES), includes 100 lessons with many different topics for the hearing-impaired such as fatherland, families, school, and yourself.

The signs in curriculum are from four sign language books compiled by VNIES which have been used in education for the deaf.

The programme will be broadcast every Thursday at 11:00pm through to December 2013 on Vietnam Television channel VTV2.

Data from General Statistic Office of Vietnam shows, in 2009 among 6.7 million disabled people in the country; 1 million are hearing-impaired (around 6.3% of population).
