Sudden demand for electric cooking appliances

Demand for electric stoves and microwave ovens rose by 5-10 per cent in the larger supermarkets like Nguyen Kim, Cho Lon, Big C and Vinatex in Ho Chi Minh City on February 2 and 3, when the hike in retail prices of domestic cooking gas was announced.

The highest sales were for electric cooking stoves, electric hotplates and microwave ovens. Most consumers were willing to spend around VND2-3 million per item, but hesitant in spending on high-end products priced over VND10 million.
