(CPV) - Japan will support Vietnam in strengthening national system of agro-fishery production safety inspection in the context that food poisoning still happens in the nation.
That’s the main content of a project that was signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (Vietnam SPS Office), International Cooperation Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Currently, some of Vietnam’s key export products such as agro-forestry and fishery products have been disposed of, rejected by importing countries due to food safety problems. In fact, Vietnam has established a system of regulation relating food safety, but implementation capacity still needs improvement.

According to Mr Taigo Endo, JICA SPS expert who carries the project’s feasibility study, the study also points out that there have been no comprehensive and scientific system for monitoring the safety of agro-forestry and fishery foods in Vietnam. Many laboratories are not equipped with machines for macro analysis and high-precision analyzing equipment. Therefore, the number of foods and food range for inspection is limited, even the inspection results are different among laboratories.
Japan will bring into full play its experiences and advantages on technology, applying 3 major activities including transfer of inspection technology, improvement of inspection system and training of officials in Vietnam and in Japan.
The project will be carried out from 2011 to 2014 with total budget of around 350 million YEN from Japan non-refundable aid./.
