State President receives outgoing ambassadors

President Truong Tan Sang has highly valued efforts of the ambassadors of the European Union and Iran to Vietnam during their term of office in Vietnam

At a meeting in Hanoi on Oct. 22 with EU Ambassador Sean Doyle, head of the EU delegation to Vietnam , who paid him a farewell visit at the end of his term of office, President Sang hailed the development of the Vietnam-EU relations in all aspects, including the ambassador’s contributions.

The President thanked the EU for its support for Vietnam to early fulfill some millennium development goals.

He said he wishes Ambassador Doyle continue to promote the EU-Vietnam and EU-ASEAN relations in the future.

Ambassador Doyle said that EU nations always value Vietnam ’s role. He assured that the ties in economics, trade, investment and other fields between the EU and Vietnam would be enhanced although the bloc is facing difficulties at this time.

Also the same day, President Sang met with Iranian Ambassador Seyed Javad Ghanvam Shahidi, who came to bid fare well before of ending his term of office in Vietnam.

Based on the present relations, Vietnam and Iran can be optimistic about the future of bilateral ties, especially in trade and investment, the President said, adding he highly valued the education exchange programme between the two countries.

Vietnam is looking forward to the Non-Aligned Movement Conference to be held in Iran in 2012, President Sang added.

Ambassador Seyed Javad Ghanvam Shahidi thanked Vietnam’s relevant agencies for creating conditions for him to fulfill his mission, affirming that space for bilateral cooperation need to be expanded, with the exchange of high-level delegations as the first thing.

He highly valued the economic cooperation mechanism through the joint committee.

Iran and Vietnam have signed four documents and been working to draft other documents, including a roadmap for trade.

The diplomat affirmed he will continue to do his best to make contributions to the Vietnam-Iran ties’ development./.
