VGP – Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam started his five-day state visit to Việt Nam on April 23 at the invitation of the Vietnamese State President Trương Tấn Sang.
At the talks held by the two Presidents the same day, the two sides highly applauded the comprehensive cooperation of the two nations and worked on orientations for the Việt Nam-Singapore strategic partnership relations.
They also valued developments in economic, investment and trade ties between the two countries. Singapore is one of the top investors and trade partners of Việt Nam.
The two leaders said they are satisfied with the efficiency of the Việt Nam-Singapore Connectivity Framework Agreement as well as cooperation in security, national defense, anti-transnational crime, education and training, construction and agriculture.
They also spoke highly of the two countries’ coordination at international and regional forums.
The Vietnamese State President thanked Singapore for supporting Việt Nam to run for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights in phase from 2014-2016 and a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in phase from 2020-2021.
The Singaporean President shared with Việt Nam’s views on the East Sea issue and is unanimous in following the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea in handling the issue.
