State President holds talks with Israeli counterpart

VPG – State President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse solemnly welcomed Israeli President Reuven R.Rivlin and his spouse on their State visit to Viet Nam from March 19-25.

State President Quang warmly welcomed the official tour, regarding this as a respect for better friendship between the two countries.

The Israeli President expressed his pleasure to visit Viet Nam for the first time and his aspiration of Vietnamese people's determination in national protection and peace-loving spirit.

The guest leader also lauded the socio-economic achievements that Viet Nam has attained over the past time. He was convinced that the close cooperation among the two governments and business communities would cement and deepen the bilateral ties.

The two leaders agreed to consider economics as a centre and convert science and technology into a pillar of priority in the bilateral ties.

They were unanimous in optimizing potentials and strive for a US$ 3 billion two-way trade turnover in the next couples of year. Both sides pledged to speed up the negotiation process to early ink a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and Israel; facilitate enterprises and localities to spur trade and business exchanges; boost investment in high-tech farming, human resource training, IT, electronics, telecom, and water treatment.

The Israeli President vowed to back Viet Nam on dioxin-contaminated soil treatment.

In addition, the two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in security-national defense, culture, education-training, and tourism, as well as local ordination.

Regarding politics, both sides were unanimous in spurring contacts at all levels; encouraging direct cooperation among localities, ministries, sectors with a view to upholding the effective roles of bilateral cooperative mechanisms like inter-governmental committee and political consultation.

They also exchanged view on the East Sea, the Middle East, and international issues. Viet Nam reiterated the use of peaceful solutions to all disputes, including those in the East Sea; respected diplomatic and legal processes; basic principles of international laws including the UN Charter and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Viet Nam hoped for early peace in the Middle East, thus backing all regional, international, related efforts to the region on the basis of international law and UN resolutions towards comprehensive, equal, sustainable solutions to the setting up of an independent Palestine State to peacefully co-exist besides the State of Israel.

The Israeli President thanked the hospitable sentiments and warm reception of the Vietnamese Head-of-State and people for the delegation./.
