CPV: Nearly 300 tonnes of goods and essential items such as food and medicine have been loaded onto ships to be carried to the Spratly Islands, so that soldiers and people on the Islands can soon welcome the 2011 (Tan Mao) lunar New Year.
According to Colonel Nguyen Duc Vuong, Deputy Political Commissar of the naval force in Cam Ranh, the central province of Khanh Hoa, the amount of goods transported to the Islands has been increased from previous years. Apart from regular assistance, each soldier will receive VND100,000 and each family on the Islands will be given VND200,000 from the Ministry of National Defence.
Some localities and agencies who present goods to the Islands include the Vietnam Women’s Union, Ho Chi Minh City and the northern province of Lao Cai (VND 120 million), agencies in the central province of Khanh Hoa (VND 400 million), Anh Dao service cooperative in Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong (11 fridges and 3 tonnes of goods).
