Established in 2004, under the auspices of the Hai Phong Association of Victims of Agent Orange, a special art troupe whose members are AO victims in Hai Phong Province has, for many years, impressed audiences by their talents and their courage.
The art troupe of 13 special artists was established as a part of effort to help AO victims integrate into the community and have access to job opportunities. For years, the art troupe has been travelling with an old Daihatsu car to various places to entertain AO victims in the City.
Artist Nguyen Thi Hoan, 26 years old, from Truong Tho Commune, An Lao District, who is paralysed and has to use a wheelchair, confided that once her younger sister took her to an art performance by AO victims, she was impressed by these performances and decided to apply to become a troupe member. Now, she can confidently show her talent in singing and joins hands to promote the charity fund and help other AO victims as well as needy children overcome difficulties and integrate into the community.
Like Hoan, drummer Nguyen Van Thanh, 31 years old, from An Hong Commune, An Duong District, could work with these special artists and help needy people in society.
In addition, the art troupe in the past years raised VND 70 million to build houses of gratitude for two AO victims’ families in Bac Son and Quan Tru communes, Kien An District and presented gifts to needy AO victims in the City.
