The 2012 Danang International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) officially opened on the banks of Han River in the central city of Danang on April 29.
The two-day event, themed “The Colours of Danang”, attracted five teams, namely David Whysall International Fireworks from Canada (DIFC winner in 2008), Liuyang Dancing Fireworks of China (2009), France's Jacques Couturier Organization (2010), Parente Fireworks of Italy (2011), and the host Danang-Vietnam team.
The first day of competition saw fireworks displays from Canada, China and Vietnam, while France and Italy are scheduled to perform on the second day.
The event was one of the activities to mark the 37th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification Day (April 30).
Related cultural and sporting events, including a culinary festival, a fashion show and a music program, took place along with the fireworks competition.
The Danang- Vietnam team impressed the audience with its marvelous performances and revolutionary music to honour the national holidays.
As many as 400,000 Vietnamese and foreign tourists are expected to watch the event, which aims to promote the beautiful image of Danang and its motto of "a city worth living in".
