At the event, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, confirmed the value of the resistance war against the US aggressors, saying that Vietnam's victory was due to the effective and creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thoughts.
Quan recalled the role of the Saigon (now HCMC) Party branch during the Ho Chi Minh military campaign that toppled the Saigon puppet regime and said the city will build on the spirit of the April 30 Great Victory in its current process of development and defence.
HCMC has made tremendous progress in the 37 years since its liberation and now accounts for more than 20 percent of the national GDP, and one third of the State budget.
Communists and workers in the city are also effectively participating in the campaign to study and follow the moral example of late President Ho Chi Minh.
At the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung awarded several titles to collectives and individuals in the city to recognize their efforts in emulation movements.
