Song Lam Nghe An need only one point from this afternoon's match against VB Sport to enter the knockout round of the Asian Football Confederation Cup for the first time.
HA NOI –
The team will have the advantage of playing on home turf while their opponents have already been eliminated from the tournament.
The Vietnamese team needs a win to ensure their top place in Group F and to make future progression easier. Song Lam Nghe An are currently second placed with nine points after five matches.
"Song Lam Nghe An pocketed three points from the first leg match when we played a substitute lineup. We can not be subjective in the second leg game. We really want another victory and hope to top the group," said Coach Nguyen Huu Thang.
"We will kick off the game with suitable players because we have to save energy for a V-League match at the end of the week. We will not give up our AFC Cup nor our V-League dreams" said Thang, whose team is leading the first half of the national premier league.
No one knows the strengths and weaknesses of VB Sport better than Captain Nguyen Thu Thuat.
"They have a strong forward line of two Brazilian strikers, but holes in their defence. I think Song Lam Nghe An could easily score in attack," Thuat said.
Faced with increasingly hot weather, VB Sport underwent their first training session at Vinh Stadium on Monday.
According to those in the know VB Sprt are not on best form at present.
"We were unqualified so we feel no pressure regarding the upcoming match. We have been tired out by traveling from Noi Bai International Airport to Vinh City. We also lack a couple of our players due to injuries," said coach Taveres of VB Sport.
Despite challenges, VB Sport has a good spirit. They have never lost their determination to win. The Maldivian team defeated Indonesia's Sriwijaya 2-0 last week.
In another group match the leading team TSW Pegasus from Hong Kong will play Sriwijaya, the winner of which will proceed to the next round.
In a group G match played yesterday, V-League defending champions Ha Noi T&T defeated Victory SC from the Maldives 1-0.
Le Hong Minh scored four minutes after the start of the game, helping to ensure the team's second win, despite which they had to proudly say goodbye because of being knocked out of the tournament during a previous match. – VNS
