Nhan Dan Online/VFF – Nguyen Hong Viet scored the only goal to help Vietnam’s Song Lam Nghe An overcome Hong Kong’s Kitchee 1-0 in the 2012 AFC Cup at Vinh stadium on Tuesday.
The Group F opener of the second leg started off at a slow pace, with few clear chances to net the ball created by both sides.
It was not until the 60th minute that the game was decided when Hong Viet picked up a favourable cross from Abass and went past three defenders before firing the ball past goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng, to seal a 1-0 win for the Vietnamese team.
With the victory, Song Lam Nghe An earned an additional three points and temporarily stand at the bottom of the group with just four points, while Kitchee continue to dominate the standings with nine points, a three-point lead over second placed Malaysia’s Terengganu, who lost 2-0 to Singapore's Tampines Rovers in another Group F game on the same day.
Vietnam National Cup winners Navibank Saigon dropped to second place in Group H with seven points, after losing 0-2 to Myanmar’s Ayeyawady United in the first game of the second round on Tuesday.
Navibank Saigon will play Malaysia’s Kelantan in their fifth group game on home turf on April 24 while defending V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An will travel to Malaysia to face Terengganu the following day.
