(VOV) - There will be sister relations established between Quang Tri and two provinces of Laos, Savannakhet and Salavan.
A conference on May 29 held by the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee finalized the upcoming implementation of this policy.
Attending the conference were representatives from the two Ministries of National Defence, the High Command of Border Guard and the National Border Committee, leaders of the three provinces, together with representatives from 23 pairs of sister villages between Quang Tri and Savannakhet and Salavan.
According to Nguyen Duc Cuong, Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee, this policy will serve to accentuate the position as well as the role of people in constructing and defending the sovereignty and security of the two countries.
Having been established since April 2005, the 23 pairs of sister villages have proved their essential role in maintaining political stability in the border areas, accelerating the two countries’ relationship, increasing the socio-economic development and improving the living conditions of local people.
Deputy Political Commissar of the High Command of Border Guard, Maj. Gen. Vu Hiep Binh hope that Vietnam will establish the model of sister villages in all its border areas with other countries.
