Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas was set to leave intensive care on Wednesday three and a half weeks after being shot in the head in a Mexico City bar.

The 29-year-old forward of Mexican club America, who still has the bullet lodged in his brain, has been able to move more parts of his body, one of his doctors said.

"His progress has been very positive, he has managed well without the drip and his movements have been more agile and stronger," Dr. Ernesto Martinez told a news conference.

"He even wants to get up, but we haven't let him because of the effort he would have to make.

"This means we can take him out of intensive care and put him in a room and the risk of death is diminishing."

Police are still looking for a suspect in the shooting, believed to have occurred during an argument over America's results and Cabanas' form in the bathroom of the bar in the early hours of Monday, Jan. 25.

Doctors have said that having the bullet still in his brain would not impede Cabanas, a key player in Paraguay's successful qualification for this year's World Cup in South Africa, from playing again.
