Four people will be tried in Ho Chi Minh City this Friday for allegedly running a sex website that claimed to be the largest in Vietnam, a judge said Sunday.
Charged with “spreading illicit cultural products,” 26-year-old Nguyen Tang Truong established the site www.mocxi.com in 2006 after graduating from the HCMC University of Sciences, according to the indictment. Truong said the website aimed to “educate teenagers about safe sex.”
He then hired Lam Duong Hieu, 29, Tong Anh Hoang, 57, and Nguyen Do Cong, 30, as website administrators.
To draw interest from netizens, the administrators uploaded pornographic photos and sex films to the website.
They then earned money selling the pornographic films and hiring out advertising banners on the site, the indictment said.
The website was found to have had around 100,000 visits a day and approximately 300,000 member accounts. Some 1,650,000 items about sex had been posted to the site when it was closed down in November last year.
HCMC police arrested Truong and the four web administrators and confiscated four laptops, ten hard drives, over 300 sex films, and more than 9,000 pornographic photos at the suspects’ houses.
