On January 12, State President Truong Tan Sang received a delegation of war veterans from Regiment 72 while National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu was on a New Year visit to the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.
At the reception, President Sang praised their great contributions to the country’s revolutionary cause, saying that the Party, State and people will never forget the Regiment’s contribution to the cause of construction and defence.
During the anti-French resistance war, Regiment 72, one of the first shock forces of the Vietnam People’s Army engaged in more than 100 battles to protect the northern province of Bac Kan.
In 2011, the Regiment was conferred the title ”Hero of the People’s Armed Force” by the State and Party in recognition of its glorious feats of arms.
*** During the New Year visit to An Giang, NA Vice Chairman Luu praised the province’s efforts to boost socio-economic development.
Over the past year, An Giang’s growth rate has risen to above 11 percent with its GDP per capita reaching more than VND27 million.
On this occasion, NA Vice Chairman Luu extended his best wishes to local people.
