HA NOI The Ministry of Justice and the Viet Nam Lawyers Association have launched the 20 top law firms and top 20 lawyers of the year awards.
The awards will be held annually to honour law firms and lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession.
Organisers will also award the title "Lawyer of the public," nominated by Viet Nam Law newspaper s readers, and the title "Case of the year" for the lawyer who has made a significant legal breakthrough.
Selection criteria include the numbers of cases handled, the prestige and social role of the firms, and their scope of operation, according to Nguyen Xuan Binh, member of the organising committee.
A group of 11 famous lawyers and representatives from State organisations and agencies will judge the entries.
The list of winners will be announced in the first quarter of next year.
There are currently about 5,500 lawyers, 1,700 domestic law firms or offices and 64 foreign law firms or offices operating in the country. VNS
