(VOV) - The Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2012 will take place from June 1-8, mainly in the southern coastal city of Vung Tau, according to a press briefing in Hanoi on April 27.

The week is expected to make both leaders and people more fully aware of the role and importance of seas and islands in the country’s socio-economic development and sovereignty protection, said Nguyen Van Cu, an official from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.
It also aims to support the rational and sustainable use of sea and island resources, said Cu, who is Director General of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands.
This year’s event, entitled ‘Vietnam gets strong and rich from the sea’, will be held mainly in the coastal city of Vung Tau, and will include activities in reference to World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8), and forums on marine trademarks and national marine trademarks.
