At 10.30am, Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Tuong, 31 of police forces in ward 5, Vinh Long Town, was standing in front of the house of Mr. Le Van Sau, chief of the ward police forces, when three men approached from behind.
They stabbed him in the left back.

According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Viet Quang, spokesman for the Vinh Long Province police, Tuong was visiting Sau to report on official matters at the latter’s private house.
Police have arrested Ho Anh Duy, Tran Chi Dieu and Nguyen Tan Vu for investigation.
Duy, just 17 years old, is suspected of directly causing Tuong’s death.
Duy told police that at 10.30pm on August 17, he was scolded by Tuong while he was gathering in groups on the street. The next day, Duy bought a knife with intention to harm Tuong, he confessed.
According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Quang, Tuong was a good and brave policeman.
In 2009, Tuong was stabbed in the lung after he intervened in a domestic dispute.
Tuong used to be a solder. He was married with a one-year-old child.
The local police department has handed VND5 million to Tuong’s family for his funeral.
Quang told Tuoi Tre his agency will soon seek government approval to recognize Tuong as a revolutionary martyr.
