As Tet holiday has 10 days to go, many of Saigontourist’s hotels and tourist areas in HCMC’s District 1 are in a race against time to prepare a wide variety of food and entertainment programs for revelers in the biggest holiday of year.

As Tet holiday has 10 days to go, many of Saigontourist’s hotels and tourist areas in HCMC’s District 1 are in a race against time to prepare a wide variety of food and entertainment programs for revelers in the biggest holiday of year.

A food program called “Tet of Vietnamese” featuring traditional Vietnamese dishes for Tet will be held on the Lunar New Year’s Eve on January 22 together with many animated entertainment programs.

Showing Tet activities of Vietnamese, writing calligraphy, making to he (a traditional toy for children in Vietnam that is made from glutinous rice flour in the form of edible figurines such as animals, flowers or characters in folk stories), weaving grasshoppers using coconut leaves and a bamboo dance show are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., followed by a music show from 7:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The next eventful festivities include children dance performance, lucky draw, Tay Son dance, circus juggling, Kungfu presentation, lion dance, BOM Countdown champagne show and fireworks display from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Admission is VND2.2 million per adult and VND1.1 million per child.

The hotel’ s Golden Palace Restaurant will prepare a Tet buffet program with selected Oriental seafood dishes along with traditional Vietnamese Tet specialties like banh chung, banh tet (glutinous rice cake filled with green bean paste and pork), dried shrimp served with cu kieu (pickled scallion heads) and a free flow of drinks. On the last day of the old lunar year, revelers can watch an ethnic music show.

Adults will pay VND450,000 each for parties from January 16 to 21, VND600,000 on January 22 and VND350,000 from January 23 to 26.

A buffet with a wide selection of foods such as pho duoi bo (rice noodle with ox’s tail), grilled beef, and fried chicken wings will be available at the Calibre Charner Restaurant from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. from January 21 to 26.

A dish costs VND100,000 and a combo to go VND100,000.

Guests to the Green Leaf Café will be served a hi-tea from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. on January 22. The program costs VND115,000 per guest. Meanwhile, a buffet dinner “Saigon Tet dishes” will be served at the hotel’s Buffet Ganh Restaurant from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., also on the last day of the old lunar year. The ticket is VND390,000 per guest.

Also on Lunar New Year’s Eve, the Lotus Center on the seventh floor will offer a buffet from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. at VND550,000 per guest. The twelfth floor is recommended as an ideal venue for tourists to enjoy the fireworks and countdown party from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The Central Restaurant will put on a set menu during the holidays from January 20 to 31 and will invite a traditional art troupe to entertain guests from January 23 to 25. Customers at the Bistro Café will have a chance to enjoy gigs by Flamenco bands with Filipino singers on weekends.

From now to January 31, gourmets to the restaurant will be given a glass of wine on Saturdays and Sundays and those taking two mugs of draught beer will get one more free in happy hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyday.
