The new US$360-million Saigon Premier Container Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City received its first ship Friday.
The terminal, known as SPCT, is a joint venture between UAE’s DP World, which holds an 80-percent stake, and the Vietnamese state-owned Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (IPC).
Located in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park in Nha Be District, the terminal boasts a total capacity of 1.5 million TEU a year.
SPCT is equipped with five quay cranes and 13 rubber tired gantry cranes.
The French-flagged Asta Rickmers, a 30,000-ton vessel that made the first call at SPCT, is operated by shipping line CMA-CGM and maintains weekly service between Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysia’s Tanjung Pelapas and Port Klang.
