Runner, high jumper take gold in Bangkok

Middle-distance runner Truong Thanh Hang has won the women's 1,500 metres and Nguyen Cong Phuoc the men's high jump at the first day of the Thailand Track and Field Open in Bangkok.


HCM City-born Hang clocked in 4 minutes 27 seconds in her win - much slower than her best personal time of 4:19:42 at the Southeast Asian Games in Laos last December.

She won three gold medals at the Asian Athletics Association Grand Prix Series in Viet Nam and Thailand two years ago.

Nguyen Cong Phuoc won his gold medal with a jump of 2.06m.

Nguyen Van Mua leapt 7.44m to win the silver medal in the men's long jump.

Viet Nam's top athlete Vu Van Huyen will contest the men's decathlon and Nguyen Thi Bac 400m women's hurdles today. - VNS
