Roger Muraro to give recital at HCMC Opera House

Winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the International Franz Liszt Competition in Parma, “Victoires de la Musique” award in 2001, and “Music Personality of the Year” in 2009, the Frenchman is highly regarded. On Tuesday, he will perform works of Liszt, Debussy and Berlioz.
Born in 1959 from Venetian parents living in Lyon, Muraro began studying the saxophone before teaching himself the piano. At 19, he enrolled in Yvonne Loriod’s class at Paris Conservatory and met the legendary Olivier Messiaen.
He quickly established himself as one of the top interpreters and, in 2001, released a recording of complete music for solo piano consisting of seven CDs, which was greeted with unanimous rave reviews. Muraro is today considered as one of the finest performers of Messiaen’s works.
Appearing in recital in the world’s most prestigious venues, he also collaborates with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Pinchas Steinberg, Marek Janowski, Valery Gergiev and Kent Nagano, and has been invited to join the finest orchestras such as Berlin, Vienna and London Philharmonics, Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, among others. His latest album, entitled “Regards sur le XXe sìecle” (Looking Back at the 20th Century), received an award in 2008.
