Nhan Dan – Motorbike and car owners will be charged a road maintenance fee from June this year, according to a decree recently issued by the Prime Minister.
The fees, collected via vehicle registration and insurance agencies, will be used to meet the cost of road maintenance.
Motorcycle owners will be required to pay a minimum of VND80,000 (US$3.8) and a maximum of VND150,000 (US$7.2) per year. Fees collected from motorcyclists will be paid to provincial road maintenance funds.
Automobile owners will be charged between VND180,000 (US$8.6) and VND1.44 million (US$69.1) per month depending on the type of their vehicles. 65% of the automobile fees will be administered by the central road maintenance fund with the remainder paid into provincial funds.
