Nhan Dan – Vietnam’s rice shipments in March reached 460,270 tonnes, worth nearly US$211 million, which raises the total export volume in the first quarter of 2012 to 1.1 million tonnes, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
The VFA said that rice exports in the first quarter fell by 41.19% in volume and 40.63% in value compared to the same period last year.
Vietnamese rice exporters have so far stockpiled 693,894 tonnes of rice and expect to buy an additional 1.5 million tonnes from local farmers in April and May.

The VFA also forecasted that Vietnam’s rice shipments in April will reach 650,000 tonnes and 2 million tonnes for the second quarter of 2012.
