“Return to Truong Son” bicycle tournament reviewed

PANO – The organizing panel of the “Return to Truong Son” bicycle tournament, Vietnam People’s Army Newspaper (PAN) Cup, met on August 6th to the results of the race at the PAN headquarters.

Present at the event were Major-General Le Phuc Nguyen, Editor-in-Chief of the PAN and Head of the tournament’s organization panel, Colonels Pham Van Huan and Ha Manh Tuong and Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Nguyen Kim Ton, Deputy-Editors-in-Chief of the PAN, Doan Kim Phach, Deputy-Chairman of the Vietnam Motor-Bicycle Sports Federation, and representatives from the tournament’s sponsors and supporters of the VietinBank, PV OiL, Viettel, Vietnamobile, Military Corps 15, General Departments of Logistics, Technology and National Defence Industry, to name a few.

Major-General Le Phuc Nguyen stressed that the “Return to Truong Son” tournament is not only a national professional bicycle tournament but also a socio-political event. During the stages in provinces, the organizing panel combined the sports with national traditional education of “When drinking water, remember its source” to help the young generations know more about national history and tribute to contributions of war invalids and martyrs and those who well served national resistance wars against foreign invaders.

On behalf of the panel, Major-General Le Phuc Nguyen thanked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, and authorities of Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri for their practical support to make the tournament a success. Along with the PAN, other units and organizations collected VND 1.1 billion to built new gratitude houses and present gifts to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, martyrs’ families, beneficiaries and war invalids.

At the reviewing ceremony, the organizing panel also granted certificates of merit to individuals and units that made outstanding contributions to the tournament's success.
