PANO - A requiem for heroic martyrs, who laid down their lives in battles at both Thach Han River and Quang Tri Citadel for the cause of national independence, was held on July 10th in the Central Highland Province of Quang Tri.
On the bank of Thanh Han River, the requiem was hosted by Most Venerable Thich Chieu Tang, member of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha and other dignitaries.
The event, which was carried out with Buddhist rituals, is a meaningful activity to mark the 64th anniversary of Vietnam’s Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27th, 1947) and to meet the desire of relatives and comrades of these martyrs.
The Vietnam Buddhist Shangha in cooperation with the Information Communication Centre for Environmental Development, the People’s Army Publishing House and the ancient Quang Tri citadel Soldier Liaison Committee along with other agencies organized the event.
Many representatives from army units, businesses and local people took part in the requiem.
On the occasion, 200 gifts were presented to representatives of the families of martyrs.
