Chess playing and training movements nationwide have been warmed up after grandmaster Le Quang Liem successfully defended his championship title at the international elite chess tournament Aeroflot Open 2011 in Russia.
The number of learners, including mainly young people at chess clubs in Ho Chi Minh, such as the HCMC Children Centre, the Binh Tan Sports Centre, the Smart Chess Centre and other clubs, has soared.
According to Le Hien Thuc, a chess coach at the Binh Tan Sports Centre, there are more parents who want their children to play chess at early ages. She added that her centre is always busy receiving calls from parents to find out chess training classes for their children.
Also, online forums and websites on chess are always visited these days, showing that people have showed their interest in chess.
More than 1,000 visits to the Smart Chess Centre’s website http://www.smartchess.com.vn/ during a week when Le Quang Liem won in Russia, said Tu Hoang Thong, a chess coach from the centre.
Liem is always ready to give support to those interested in chess. Send him an email at quangliem91@yahoo.com.
